Hing-Chung Lee, MD, PhD, FACP

Hing-Chung Lee, M.D., Ph.D. joined Physician Associates in May, 2001. Dr. Lee is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Lee graduated from the National Taiwan University School of Medicine in Taipei, Taiwan in 1981 and obtained an M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii in 1983 and 1985, respectively. Dr. Lee was a Clinical Research Fellow in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and Internal Medicine Resident at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. In addition, Dr. Lee was a Senior Clinical Staff Fellow for the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland and later was appointed Chief of the Pharmacology, Brain, Aging and Dementia Section Laboratory of Neurosciences. Dr. Lee served on the faculty at Creighton University School of Medicine, George Washington University School of Medicine and Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Lee has received numerous awards and published more than 45 papers and abstracts, many of them addressing hypertension and issues in clinical pharmacology. Dr. Lee is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. Dr. Lee sees patients at the Rockville office Monday through Friday.

Mona Ellis, MD

Family Medicine

Mona Ellis, M.D. is Board Certified in Family Medicine since 1991. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Georgetown University/Providence Hospital program where she was Chief Resident. Prior to that, she received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984 and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa in 1988. Dr. Ellis has been seeing patients in private practice in Maryland for more than 20 years, as well as working as an Emergency Department physician. Prior to joining Physician Associates in January 2008, Dr. Ellis worked in three student health care settings, in several Family Medicine Practices and was an Admitting Officer at a Substance Abuse Facility. In addition, she was a consultant to the American Academy of Family Physician Foundation for more than 10 years reviewing hundreds of patient education materials in English and Spanish. Dr. Ellis sees teens above the age of 13 and adults of all ages. In addition to preventative health care and the treatment of illnesses, Dr. Ellis also does pre-travel consultations. Dr. Ellis is fluent in Spanish and practices exclusively out of the Chevy Chase office on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

Reshma Rao Kundapur, MD

Family Medicine

Reshma Rao Kundapur, M.D. joined Physician Associates in October 2010 and specializes in the area of Family Medicine. Dr. Kundapur is Board Certified in Family Medicine. She attended JJM Medical College in Davangere, India and obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1999. Dr. Kundapur was an intern at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas and completed her Residency as a chief resident from State University of NY, Buffalo. Prior to joining Physician Associates, she was an Express Care Physician at Memorial Hospital, Shore Health System in Easton, Maryland. She also worked as an Urgent Care Physician at Righttime Care Centers in Annapolis, Maryland. Dr. Kundapur works exclusively out of the Rockville office Monday through Fridays.

Barrett Goldstein, MD, FACS

Orthopedic Medicine

Barrett Goldstein, M.D. is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who joined Physician Associates in July 2006. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1954. He attended University of Maryland Medical School and graduated in 1958. Dr. Goldstein completed his internship at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Orthopaedic Residency at Washington Hospital Center and Children’s Hospital. He was a Clinical Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital from 1965 to 1980 and served as President of the Washington Orthopedic Society in 1974. He was on active duty in the United States Army and Chief of Orthopaedics at Fort Devons. Dr. Goldstein works exclusively out of the Chevy Chase office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays, doing orthopaedic medicine.

Joel R. Schulman, MD, FCCP – RETIRED

Internal Medicine/Pulmonology

Joel R. Schulman, M.D. joined Physician Associates in 1977 and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine. He received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1972 after graduating with an Honors Degree in biochemistry from Rutgers University in 1968. Dr. Schulman completed post graduate training at Montefiore Hospital and Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Schulman taught at New York University School of Medicine and Albert Einstein School of Medicine prior to moving to Maryland in 1977. He served as Chief of the Medical Staff at Suburban Hospital from 2000-2003. Dr. Schulman retired from clinical practice in 2015, however, he continues to be active in Physician Associates management.

Elliot R. Goldstein, MD, FCCP, FACP – RETIRED

Internal Medicine/Pulmonology

Elliot R. Goldstein, M.D. received his medical degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Medical School in 1965 and served as chief medical resident at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Goldstein is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. He was a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health and a pulmonary fellow at the Veterans Administration Hospital Georgetown Program. Dr. Goldstein served on the faculty of Georgetown University Medical School and George Washington University Medical School. He is a Member of the Intensive Care Unit Committee and Pulmonary/Critical Care Consultant at Suburban Hospital and served as Chief of the Pulmonary Division at Shady Grove Hospital. Dr. Goldstein founded Potomac Home Health Care in 1978. He continues to lecture to physicians throughout the country on a variety of health-related topics. Dr. Goldstein retired from clinical practice in 2015, however, he continues to be active in the day to day management of Physician Associates.

Amy J. Byer, MD FACOG

Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Amy J. Byer, MD FACOG board certified obstetrics and gynecology. Received her Bachelors of Science Suma Cum Laude at the University of Maryland, and then her MD at the University of Maryland Medical School. She then completed her residency at the University of Tennessee. She welcomes women of any age. Special interests in contraception, sexual dysfunctions at any stage in life, and menopause — especially replacement, both natural, hormonal and non-hormonal options. As well, she offers early infertility evaluations, and endocrine workups and treatments. She is highly skilled at evaluations (well-woman exams, dysfunctional bleeding) and in-office procedures (colposcopy, LEEP, endometrial biopsy, UID insertion/removal) She’s also introducing facial and body contouring in the office with Venus Freeze technology. Four times cited in the Washington Best Doctors issue. Office: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Dr. Byer is in our Chevy Chase office, Wednesday and Friday Dr. Byer is in our Rockville office.

Robert J. Ginsberg, MD

Family Medicine

Robert J. Ginsberg, M.D. is certified by the American Board of Family Practice since 1983. He received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Vassar College in 1976 and obtained his medical degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1980. Dr. Ginsberg completed his residency at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Ginsberg is Assistant Clinical Professor of Health Care Sciences at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Care Sciences from 1993 to the present. J. Desiree Pineda, MD

Internal Medicine and Endocrinology

Dr. J. Desiree Pineda received her Internal Medicine and Primary Care degree from the University of Connecticut Health Center and completed a three-year Endocrinology Fellowship at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney disease, National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Pineda, a native Washingtonian grew up in Dominican Republic where she obtained her medical degree at the Pedro Henriquez Urena University.

Dr. Pineda is Board Certified and practices Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in Washington, DC since 1993. In addition to Internal Medicine her areas of expertise are diabetes, thyroid diseases, metabolic and weight disorders. She also offers metabolic testing and nutritional counseling. Dr. Pineda and her staff are fluent in Spanish.

She is the Past President of the Pan American Medical Society and a board member of the Medical Society of DC representing MSDC at the American Medical Association as an Alternate Delegate.
