Robert Hardi MD

Dr. Robert Hardi graduated Summa cum Laude from the Semmelweis University Medical School in Budapest in 1972. He did post graduate training in Biochemistry and Genetics , was Assistant Professor of Genetics at the Eotvos University of Sciences in Budapest and was a post-doctoral Fellow at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo,N.Y., before starting clinical training in Internal Medicine, which he completed in Budapest and at the University Medical School in Hanover, Germany. He did clinical fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and in Gastroenterology at Cornell University Medical School/The New York Hospital.

Dr. Hardi is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and he is a Certified Clinical Investigator. He is a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research.

Since 1984 he has been in the private practice of Gastroenterology in Washington, D.C., where he was in solo practice, then with Metropolitan Gastroenterology Group and Capital Digestive Care. He joined Physician Associates in April, 2018. He is attending physician at Sibley and Suburban Hospitals. Dr. Hardi is on the clinical faculty of both Georgetown and George Washington University Medical Schools.

His particular clinical interests are Inflammatory Bowel Disease ( he served on the National Board of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America) and colorectal cancer screening.

In 1986 he founded and was Medical Director and Principal Investigator of Chevy Chase Clinical Research, which has participated in more than 350 studies in all areas of Gastroenterology. He has served on the Board and as President of the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research. Currently he is Medical Director and Principal Investigator of Capitol Research.

Dr. Hardi is fluent in Hungarian and German. He sees patients in both the Chevy Chase and the Rockville offices.
