David Perim, MD, FAAOS

Dr. Perim specializes in both conservative and operative spine treatment. When surgical treatment is necessary his focus is on minimally invasive treatments. Dr. Perim treats degenerative conditions such as spinal stenosis, disc herniations, trauma ,and tumors. He also evaluates pediatric spine patients for scoliosis and stress fractures in the lower back, which are more common with increasing participation in athletics. He treats spinal compression fractures with conservative care or if necessary a special procedure called a kyphoplasty. This is a minimally invasive procedure that can minimize pain after a compression fracture.

Dr. Perim is actively involved in teaching other spine surgeons minimally invasive surgical techniques and pearls.

Derek Kram, MD, FAAOS

During Dr. Kram’s Fellowship, he acted as Assistant Team Doctor for the National Basketball Association’s Orlando Magic.

He has published articles and presented scientific exhibits in General Orthopaedics and the surgical treatment of arthritis. He has also co-authored a textbook on the rehabilitation and treatment of fractures.

He has volunteered his time coaching his children’s sports teams, has a black belt in karate, competes in two softball leagues, and enjoys skiing, golf and fitness activities.

Dr. Evans is a board-certified joint replacement specialist. He specializes in joint replacement and joint preservation surgery of the hip, knee, and shoulder. He is adept in minimally invasive, muscle sparing anterior hip replacement to promote faster recovery incorporating the latest technology in the form of robotics, computer navigation, and patient specific instruments to ensure improved accuracy and results. He also specializes in Sports Medicine and the arthroscopic treatment of shoulder and knee injuries.

Mark Li, MD, FACSG

Internal Medicine

Dr. Mark K Li has been a primary care physician for the past 30 years. He has also served as Medical Director of the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home in Washington DC, the Sligo Nursing Home in Maryland, the Franciscan Monastery, and Montgomery Hospice Home Care division. He is speaker for over 10 organizations covering topics on health.

Under his leadership as president, the Chinese American Medical Society-Mid Atlantic Chapter received an award of Excellence by the American Liver Foundation in 2008. Dr Li was awarded a Governor’s citation in 2008. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Asian Health Foundation, a member of the National Viral Hepatitis Round table, Board member of Montgomery Hospice, Board member of the CCACC (Chinese Cultural and Community Service Center),VP of the American China Medical Exchange Society.

Dr. Li was invited by the American Liver Foundation to coordinate the Senate Staff Hepatitis B screening on 5-20-2009 at the Capitol Hill. He initiated and works with different advocacy organizations to make the Congressional Hepatitis screening on 7-21-2009 a great success. He was again invited by the Congressional Viral Hepatitis Caucus for the Hepatitis Screening Event at the Capitol Hill on 5-23-2013.

In October, 2009 Governor O’Malley appointed Dr. Li to be a member of the Maryland Community Health Resource Commission. On 5-31-2012, Dr Li presented a live National Web cast on Hepatitis B for HRSA, a division of the USHHS with an introduction by Honorable Secretary Dr. Howard Koh. He participated in the White House Physician Conversation on Care Coordination on 6-6-2012.

James M. Weiss, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon

James M. Weiss, M.D. joined Physician Associates as an Orthopedic Surgeon in October 2006 and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. He graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey / Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1988. Dr. Weiss was an orthopedic resident at the University of Maryland Hospital from 1989 to 1993 and a fellow at Shock Trauma Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems at the University of Maryland Hospital. Dr. Weiss is in the Chevy Chase/Connecticut Avenue office on Tuesday and Friday afternoons; and in Germantown on Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings and Wednesday afternoon.

Michelle Nino, MD

Michelle Nino, M.D. joined Physician Associates in November 2010 and is board eligible in Internal Medicine. She was born in Houston, Texas and attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where she obtained a B.S. degree in 1992. Dr. Nino received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1998 and completed post graduate training at Medical College of Virginia Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia 2002. Dr. Nino completed a medical genetics fellowship at Johns Hopkins in 2005 and worked as a research staff clinician at the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institutes of Health. In addition, Dr. Nino served as lead medical advisor and research administrator of research clinical protocols for the Molecular Neurobiology Branch. Dr. Nino’s practice is limited to Internal Medicine. She sees patients Monday through Fridays in Chevy Chase.

Susan W. Jaffe, MD

Susan W. Jaffe, M.D. joined Physician Associates in May 2002 and is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Jaffe provides comprehensive women’s health services including well woman exams, family planning and contraception, infertility evaluation, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, menopause counseling and geriatric gynecology. After receiving a B.S. degree from Cornell University in 1973, Dr. Jaffe earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in 1977. She completed an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston in 1981. Since 1981 she has been in practice in Montgomery County.

Phyllis Schreiner, MD

Phyllis S. Schreiner, M.D. joined Physician Associates in 2003 and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1974. Dr. Schreiner received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston in 1979 and completed her internship and residency at the University of Maryland Hospital and Veterans Administration Hospital in Baltimore in 1982.

Saba Medhane, MD, MPH

Internal Medicine

Saba Medhane, M.D. is board certified in Internal Medicine. She attended George Washington University and obtained a B.S. degree in 1994 and went on to medical school and graduated in 1998. Dr. Medhane completed her internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Medhane also obtained a Master’s in Public Health with a focus on infectious disease from Johns Hopkins University in 2004. In addition to academic honors, Dr. Medhane has worked and lectured internationally. She is fluent in several languages including German and Farsi, as well as conversant in Spanish. Dr. Medhane sees patients Monday through Friday in Rockville.
