Dr. Petruccelli is a native Marylander with a special interest in sports medicine, particularly shoulder surgery. He graduated from The Heights School in Potomac,MD where he played basketball and soccer. He then attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. receiving his BS in Exercise Science. He continued his education with a post-baccalaureate program, receiving a Certificate in Physiology at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia followed by receiving his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. Relocating to New York City, Dr. Petruccelli completed his surgical internship and orthopaedic residency at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center/Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.
His interest in sports medicine and shoulder surgery brought him to San Diego, California where he completed his fellowship at San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine. There he worked closely with Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres. He also assisted the team physician for the San Diego State Aztecs. During his fellowship, Dr. Petruccelli published surgical technique videos for national orthopaedic society meetings.
Dr. Petruccelli’s orthopaedic practice allows his patients to get back to all types of activities and he enjoys seeing his patients return to their daily routines. He works closely with his physical therapists to ensure a safe rehabilitation protocol and recovery.
Dr. Petruccelli continues his interest in sports medicine by supporting the athletic programs at Georgetown Preparatory School and his high school alma mater, The Heights School. He is also involved in giving educational talks throughout the community.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoys exercise, travel, music and cutting hair (ask him about it!).
