Lawrence G. Lazar, D.P.M.
Lawrence G. Lazar, DPM joined Physician Associates as a Podiatrist in October, 2010. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1984 and graduated from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1990. Dr. Lazar completed a two-year surgical residency in Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in north Philadelphia. Prior to relocating to the Washington Metropolitan Area, Dr. Lazar was Assistant Professor of Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Ohio College of Pediatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as Director of Residency Training. Dr. Lazar is a member of the Foot and Ankle Trauma Team at Suburban Hospital where he has been a Clinical Attending since 1998. Dr. Lazar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and has been Board Certified in Foot Surgery since 1995. Dr. Lazar has been an active runner and fitness enthusiast and lives with his wife and three children in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Lazar sees patients in the Rockville office Monday through Friday.
J. Desiree Pineda, MD
Internal Medicine and Endocrinology
Dr. J. Desiree Pineda received her Internal Medicine and Primary Care degree from the University of Connecticut Health Center and completed a three-year Endocrinology Fellowship at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney disease, National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Pineda, a native Washingtonian grew up in Dominican Republic where she obtained her medical degree at the Pedro Henriquez Urena University.
Dr. Pineda is Board Certified and practices Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in Washington, DC since 1993. In addition to Internal Medicine her areas of expertise are diabetes, thyroid diseases, metabolic and weight disorders. She also offers metabolic testing and nutritional counseling. Dr. Pineda and her staff are fluent in Spanish.
She is the Past President of the Pan American Medical Society and a board member of the Medical Society of DC representing MSDC at the American Medical Association as an Alternate Delegate.
Lawrence Starin, M.D.
Dr. Starin is a board certified General Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a native of New York and received his undergraduate degree from Brown University. He attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. Surgical Residency was completed at St. Vincent’s Hospital & Medical Center of New York with a Surgical Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He has practiced surgery in MontgomeryCounty since 1989. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Section Chief of General Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital.
Robert J. Ginsberg, M.D.
Robert J. Ginsberg, M.D. is certified by the American Board of Family Practice since 1983. He received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Vassar College in 1976 and obtained his medical degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1980. Dr. Ginsberg completed his residency at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Ginsberg is Assistant Clinical Professor of Health Care Sciences at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Care Sciences from 1993 to the present. Charles E. Sheehan, III, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Dr.Charles Sheehan has practiced in Howard County, Maryland for over 20 years. He is board certified in Internal Medicine as well as being a Fellow with the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Sheehan graduated with honors from Loyola University and the University of Maryland Medical School.
Dr.Sheehan, a lifelong resident of Maryland, is active in charity work, providing free medical care in a remote village in India. He is the volunteer Medical Director of PPES in Anupshahr, (UP),India.

Elliot R. Goldstein, M.D., FCCP, FACP - RETIRED
Elliot R. Goldstein, M.D. received his medical degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Medical School in 1965 and served as chief medical resident at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Goldstein is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. He was a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health and a pulmonary fellow at the Veterans Administration Hospital Georgetown Program. Dr. Goldstein served on the faculty of Georgetown University Medical School and George Washington University Medical School. He is a Member of the Intensive Care Unit Committee and Pulmonary/Critical Care Consultant at Suburban Hospital and served as Chief of the Pulmonary Division at Shady Grove Hospital. Dr. Goldstein founded Potomac Home Health Care in 1978. He continues to lecture to physicians throughout the country on a variety of health-related topics. Dr. Goldstein retired from clinical practice in 2015, however, he continues to be active in the day to day management of Physician Associates.
Joel R. Schulman, M.D., FCCP - RETIRED
Joel R. Schulman, M.D. joined Physician Associates in 1977 and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine. He received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1972 after graduating with an Honors Degree in biochemistry from Rutgers University in 1968. Dr. Schulman completed post graduate training at Montefiore Hospital and Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Schulman taught at New York University School of Medicine and Albert Einstein School of Medicine prior to moving to Maryland in 1977. He served as Chief of the Medical Staff at Suburban Hospital from 2000-2003. Dr. Schulman retired from clinical practice in 2015, however, he continues to be active in Physician Associates management.
Barrett Goldstein, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Barrett Goldstein, M.D. is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who joined Physician Associates in July 2006. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1954. He attended University of Maryland Medical School and graduated in 1958. Dr. Goldstein completed his internship at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Orthopaedic Residency at Washington Hospital Center and Children’s Hospital. He was a Clinical Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital from 1965 to 1980 and served as President of the Washington Orthopedic Society in 1974. He was on active duty in the United States Army and Chief of Orthopaedics at Fort Devons. Dr. Goldstein works exclusively out of the Chevy Chase office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays, doing orthopaedic medicine.
Timothy J. Curtin, M.D.
Dr. Curtin is Board Certified in Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is a Native Washingtonian and received his B.S. degree from the University of Notre Dame. He then attended Georgetown University School of Medicine and received his medical degree in 1983. After an internship in Internal Medicine, he completed a Dermatology residency, both at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Dr. Curtin was a Naval dermatologist at various Naval hospitals and retired after twenty years of service in 2004. He sees adults and children for medical and surgical dermatology on Monday and Fridays in Chevy Chase; and Tuesdays and Thursdays in Rockville.
Reshma Rao Kundapur, M.D.
Reshma Rao Kundapur, M.D. joined Physician Associates in October 2010 and specializes in the area of Family Medicine. Dr. Kundapur is Board Certified in Family Medicine. She attended JJM Medical College in Davangere, India and obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1999. Dr. Kundapur was an intern at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas and completed her Residency as a chief resident from State University of NY, Buffalo. Prior to joining Physician Associates, she was an Express Care Physician at Memorial Hospital, Shore Health System in Easton, Maryland. She also worked as an Urgent Care Physician at Righttime Care Centers in Annapolis, Maryland. Dr. Kundapur works exclusively out of the Rockville office Monday through Fridays.
Ju-un Park, M.D.
Dr. Park obtained his BA and MS in biology from Johns Hopkins University and received his MD degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Dr. Park finished his Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Texas - Houston and he is Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Park sees patients in our Rockville clinic on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays; on Tuesday and Thursday, he is in our Chevy Chase clinic.
William McNamara, M.D.
William A. McNamara, M.D. has been practicing orthopedic medicine for more than 30 years and is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery. In November 2004, Dr. McNamara joined Physician Associates and limits his practice to Orthopedic Medicine. He obtained his undergraduate degree from University of Notre Dame in 1962 and attended medical school at Georgetown University where he graduated in 1966. Dr. McNamara was a surgical intern at Washington Hospital Center, Children’s National Medical Center and resident at George Washington Hospital. He later served as a Major in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974. After serving in the military, Dr. McNamara entered the private practice of Orthopedic Surgery in 1974. He served as Chief of Orthopedics at Suburban Hospital from 1984 to 1986. Dr. McNamara sees patients in Rockville on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Mona Ellis, M.D.
Mona Ellis, M.D. is Board Certified in Family Medicine since 1991. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Georgetown University/Providence Hospital program where she was Chief Resident. Prior to that, she received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984 and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa in 1988. Dr. Ellis has been seeing patients in private practice in Maryland for more than 20 years, as well as working as an Emergency Department physician. Prior to joining Physician Associates in January 2008, Dr. Ellis worked in three student health care settings, in several Family Medicine Practices and was an Admitting Officer at a Substance Abuse Facility. In addition, she was a consultant to the American Academy of Family Physician Foundation for more than 10 years reviewing hundreds of patient education materials in English and Spanish. Dr. Ellis sees teens above the age of 13 and adults of all ages. In addition to preventative health care and the treatment of illnesses, Dr. Ellis also does pre-travel consultations. Dr. Ellis is fluent in Spanish and practices exclusively out of the Chevy Chase office on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.
Hing-Chung Lee, M.D., Ph.D., FACP

Hing-Chung Lee, M.D., Ph.D. joined Physician Associates in May, 2001. Dr. Lee is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Lee graduated from the National Taiwan University School of Medicine in Taipei, Taiwan in 1981 and obtained an M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii in 1983 and 1985, respectively. Dr. Lee was a Clinical Research Fellow in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and Internal Medicine Resident at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. In addition, Dr. Lee was a Senior Clinical Staff Fellow for the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland and later was appointed Chief of the Pharmacology, Brain, Aging and Dementia Section Laboratory of Neurosciences. Dr. Lee served on the faculty at Creighton University School of Medicine, George Washington University School of Medicine and Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Lee has received numerous awards and published more than 45 papers and abstracts, many of them addressing hypertension and issues in clinical pharmacology. Dr. Lee is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. Dr. Lee sees patients at the Rockville office Monday through Friday.
Saba Medhane, M.D., MPH
Saba Medhane, M.D. is board certified in Internal Medicine. She attended George Washington University and obtained a B.S. degree in 1994 and went on to medical school and graduated in 1998. Dr. Medhane completed her internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Medhane also obtained a Master’s in Public Health with a focus on infectious disease from Johns Hopkins University in 2004. In addition to academic honors, Dr. Medhane has worked and lectured internationally. She is fluent in several languages including German and Farsi, as well as conversant in Spanish. Dr. Medhane sees patients Monday through Friday in Rockville.
Phyllis Schreiner, M.D.
Phyllis S. Schreiner, M.D. joined Physician Associates in 2003 and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1974. Dr. Schreiner received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston in 1979 and completed her internship and residency at the University of Maryland Hospital and Veterans Administration Hospital in Baltimore in 1982.
Susan W. Jaffe, M.D.
Susan W. Jaffe, M.D. joined Physician Associates in May 2002 and is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Jaffe provides comprehensive women's health services including well woman exams, family planning and contraception, infertility evaluation, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, menopause counseling and geriatric gynecology. After receiving a B.S. degree from Cornell University in 1973, Dr. Jaffe earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in 1977. She completed an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston in 1981. Since 1981 she has been in practice in Montgomery County.
Michelle Nino, M.D.
Michelle Nino, M.D. joined Physician Associates in November 2010 and is board eligible in Internal Medicine. She was born in Houston, Texas and attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where she obtained a B.S. degree in 1992. Dr. Nino received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1998 and completed post graduate training at Medical College of Virginia Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia 2002. Dr. Nino completed a medical genetics fellowship at Johns Hopkins in 2005 and worked as a research staff clinician at the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institutes of Health. In addition, Dr. Nino served as lead medical advisor and research administrator of research clinical protocols for the Molecular Neurobiology Branch. Dr. Nino's practice is limited to Internal Medicine. She sees patients Monday through Fridays in Chevy Chase.
James M. Weiss, M.D.
James M. Weiss, M.D. joined Physician Associates as an Orthopedic Surgeon in October 2006 and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. He graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey / Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1988. Dr. Weiss was an orthopedic resident at the University of Maryland Hospital from 1989 to 1993 and a fellow at Shock Trauma Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems at the University of Maryland Hospital. Dr. Weiss is in the Chevy Chase/Connecticut Avenue office on Tuesday and Friday afternoons; and in Germantown on Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings and Wednesday afternoon.
Mark Li MD, F.A.C.S.G.
Dr. Mark K Li has been a primary care physician for the past 30 years. He has also served as Medical Director of the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home in Washington DC, the Sligo Nursing Home in Maryland, the Franciscan Monastery, and Montgomery Hospice Home Care division. He is speaker for over 10 organizations covering topics on health.
Under his leadership as president, the Chinese American Medical Society-Mid Atlantic Chapter received an award of Excellence by the American Liver Foundation in 2008. Dr Li was awarded a Governor’s citation in 2008. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Asian Health Foundation, a member of the National Viral Hepatitis Round table, Board member of Montgomery Hospice, Board member of the CCACC (Chinese Cultural and Community Service Center),VP of the American China Medical Exchange Society.
Dr. Li was invited by the American Liver Foundation to coordinate the Senate Staff Hepatitis B screening on 5-20-2009 at the Capitol Hill. He initiated and works with different advocacy organizations to make the Congressional Hepatitis screening on 7-21-2009 a great success. He was again invited by the Congressional Viral Hepatitis Caucus for the Hepatitis Screening Event at the Capitol Hill on 5-23-2013.
In October, 2009 Governor O’Malley appointed Dr. Li to be a member of the Maryland Community Health Resource Commission. On 5-31-2012, Dr Li presented a live National Web cast on Hepatitis B for HRSA, a division of the USHHS with an introduction by Honorable Secretary Dr. Howard Koh. He participated in the White House Physician Conversation on Care Coordination on 6-6-2012.
